A fake news site said Orange is the New Black was cancelled, and fans got REALLY mad

It hasn’t been cancelled, FYI.

IT’S A HUGELY popular, critically acclaimed, Emmy-nominated comedy, but that doesn’t prevent Orange is the New Black from being subject to cancellation rumours.

This one sprang from a story on ‘satirical news website’ Empire News, and gained traction on Twitter after the article was published on Friday.

It claimed OITNB had been cancelled after a disagreement between show creator Jenji Kohan and Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings.

The article contains some really awful ‘quotes’ from Hastings, such as:

A woman’s place is in the home, in the kitchen, taking care of the children. A woman in jail? How does anyone even watch that show in the first place?

Netflix soon swooped to the rescue and reassured everyone that OITNB would continue – but not before everyone had a good righteous freak out.

Fans of the show can follow filming for season three on the Netflix Instagram – they posted this lovely shot of Uzo Aduba (Suzanne) and Danielle Brooks (Taystee) to reassure us everything was OK. Aw.
